One year ago, Karen Dinkins lost her home in a devastating house fire in Newark, NJ. More than 75% of the house was destroyed, and what should have been a 3–6 month rebuild has dragged on for over a year. While a roof has finally been installed, the interior reconstruction is only just beginning, leaving the home still unlivable.

Insurance has covered temporary housing in Union, NJ, but that support ends in late February. Karen has been told she must relocate, despite limited affordable housing options that accept both a dog and a cat. She is appealing the decision, but there is no guarantee of an extension.
