Emergency Hysterectomy

I don't ask lightly. I think there's hundreds of people out there who need help and deserve it. It's just this time, I'm the one who needs help instead of being the helper.

I have been feeling generally very unwell for over two years now. While Long-term Covid is definitely a factor, my regular doctors and specialists struggled to figure out what exactly was causing my immune system to tank so quickly as well as what was causing me chronic pain.

Then in January, I had to go to the ER for what was the worst pain I'd ever felt radiating from my lower right abdomen. Many hours later, it turned out I not only had cysts over 3mm on my right ovary, it had also started to torque. I was scheduled for the ovary to be removed that day laparoscopically, of course. But the scans also showed a number of fibroids that would need to be addressed later.

Unfortunately, those fibroids interfered with the oophorectomy and instead of being laparoscopic the doctor had to cut me open, remove one of the fibroids to get to the ovary, and then the ovary. This was problematic as it required strict bed rest for the first few weeks to recover from though it did bring another specialist onboard to schedule removal of the fibroids.

I then, of course, got an infection from the oophorectomy. It was caught quickly and treated but it did require two more days in the hospital and further complicated my recovery time. During this visit they'd noticed the fibroids had grown a bit more and my appointment with the specialist was moved up.

The largest fibroid is over 16mm, larger than a banana, and it's only one of many. Apparently they'd been growing for at least ten years and no one caught them despite the many doctors I have seen recently. My choices at this point were wait until my uterus ruptured, or have a hysterectomy. The non-choice meant my surgery had to be as soon as physically possible.

Given the size of the fibroids they couldn't use the incision already there, however. They need to do a vertical cut as opposed to the horizontal C-section type one I already have. Because these incisions are going to bisect, the first had to heal completely. So the moment I would be able to go back to work, I will be having surgery instead. That will be this Friday, March 1, 2024. My estimated time of recovery before I will be allowed to work is going to take until late April, assuming no complications.

I had some money put away for emergencies, but funds had already been draining due to the long term health issues I'd been having. At this point I am beyond broke and am looking at large medical bills because of course this happened right after my medical insurance rolled over. I'm also still trying to pay off my bills from the last two years of specialist visits.

I just don't have the money. I need help. As it stands, I can't NOT get the surgery without putting my life at actual risk. But being out longer is putting me in bad debt which is in turn killing my mental health. Please, help me.
