Emergency medical expense
My great aunt has suffered more than her fair share of medical ailments in her lifetime. Open heart surgery at 6yrs old, migraines, multiple sclerosis, diverticulitis & Noonan syndrome. Her husband is the sole income in their household & he is her caregiver/provider. She was with a dear friend in Portland while he was having surgery when she suddenly felt dizzy/lightheaded, due to her ms she needs help getting around with the use of a walker. The hospital staff went & got a wheelchair for her & when she got up to be seated in the chair they noticed a significantly large amount of blood. She was rushed into emergency surgery to find the source of the bleed in her colon, they were unable to save her colon unfortunately. 7 days in the hospital, 2 hours away from home & her husband she was able to come home, thank goodness! The bad news is that she was outside of their insurance network, meaning they will have a lot of out of pocket expenses. Our family is gathering together & will be doing some fundraising to help any way we can but, the sad truth is we won't be able to raise the kind of money they truly need to get this taken care of so they won't have to stress & worry so much about affording even necessities.
