EUGENE PRIDE IS OVER 30 YEARS OLD.

Community members in Eugene began organizing what we now know as Eugene-Springfield Pride in 1992 in response to ballot measure 9 and first registered as a nonprofit, the “Oregon Government Must Discourage Homosexuality Amendment”. From then, leadership changed hands between sapphic and gay communities during the HIV/AIDs epidemic and beyond. Eugene Pride has also been associated with the historical Alton Baker Park, until recently. The board moved to changed the venue of the festival due to a lack of support and accountability from the City of Eugene and Eugene Police Department respectively.

Pride celebrations are uniquely vulnerable to uninspired and repressed individuals who attend to spread their hateful speech. Organizers at Eugene Pride, along with queer centered organizations from Southern Oregon, and faith communities in Eugene have a coordinated responses to the violent interlopers that embody an essential truth about the LGBTQIA2+ community: The first PRIDE was a riot. Eugene's queer community continues that legacy through political action, mutual aid, and radical joy.

These are the stories of the people who organize the festival and the community it platforms.

Stories of professionals, activists, artists, veterans, people with disabilities, and spiritual seekers it offers a glimpse of the spectrum that is our Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Ace, & Two Spirit. In this documentary, we interview organizers, at the time, from the board. Brooks McClain, Andrew, Nick West, and other powerful people.

Is Pride Corporate? - Is EUGENE PRIDE a Riot?

Whether or not Eugene Pride is a corporate is a hot topic of debate within Eugene's queer and leftist community. There are individuals that espouse the idea that Eugene Pride as we know it has departed from it's more radical roots. After all, many credit the Stone Wall riots of the 20th century, and political movement of urgent outcry for human rights, as the beginning of Pride marches and festivals as we know it. There are those who troll the Facebook comments (they're probably bots, though, dead internet theory am I right?), and there are those who choose to not attend because they do not feel represented. Well "Eugene Skinner" and Pride are a weird association.

People seem to associate Eugene Pride with the City of Eugene and Eugene Police department. I believe that has obscured the true character of Eugene Pride and the people who come together to make it happen. Watch the documentary and decide for yourself the answer to this important question.

In 2024 I watched several documentaries about HIV/AIDS and the global coordination amongst Western Nations to allow people to die of this terrible disease. The majority of the afflicted people were black, had disabilities, brown, Asian, Gay, overall, not a majority White, Anglo-Saxon. And so many people passed on and left behind giant culture shaped holes in our community. And many people survived BECAUSE of the various international movements for HIV/AIDS advocacy. The activists fought, often those living with infection, for medication, for education, for access, and for solidarity. It was powerful. It made me wonder: "when is the next global crisis going to impact a marginalized community? And are we ready to organize in response?"

I am Eva Osirus. My lineage is from the Caribbean, from AYITI (Mountainous Land) and in many ways I crawled out of the Atlantic Ocean. I am a Transdsciplinary artist. subjects are music, poetry, filmmaking, and chanoyu. I am a restorative practitioner. I am a dream weaver. This is my first documentary. I am not corporate. A major reason why I have been able to take on this project is because Eugene Pride has funded the first phase of production. This funding helped me pay my collaborator Jordan Romani who collected the majority of footage necessary for the completion of the picture.

Jordan Romani is the owner of FreshPAC, a one-stop shop for many needs including but not limited to documentaries, weddings, business/event promotion, music videos, educational content, real estate, photography, professional live sound, and professional studio recordings. Jordan is helping me with this project basically probono because I under normal circumstances I cannot afford his rates.
