We are reaching out to you with a humble request for support on behalf of a young single mother who is facing an unexpected and overwhelming challenge. Her 3-month-old baby has just been diagnosed with a rare eye condition — the same condition Ray Charles faced as a child — something that occurs in only 1 out of every 10,000 babies.

This diagnosis requires urgent and ongoing care from a pediatric specialist located more than 250 miles from their home (one way), meaning repeated long-distance trips, time away from work, and immediate out-of-pocket expenses. 

The pediatric specialist has already shared that this will be an ongoing process, and no other pediatric specialist is closer to the family to care for the baby due to the rare medical condition. 

Surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks, and this mother is doing everything she can to stay strong for her little one while navigating this sudden medical journey with no paid time off remaining after maternity leave.

The mother has thankfully received warm clothing and essential items for her baby, along with personal necessities to help her for 1 to 2 months. However, she is still in need of financial support to cover travel costs, lodging, meals, and any out-of-pocket medical expenses that may arise. 

We are hoping to raise $2,000 to help ease the financial burden of travel, any medical expenses, and lost wages as she fights for her baby’s sight. Any amount — big or small — will make a meaningful difference.
