Fabric Masks for COVID19

K&K Dressmaking and Kasia's Bridal in Chicago, Illinois are producing fabric masks for our community (hospitals, nursing homes, etc) as we prepare for COVID-19, while we are ordered by our governor to stay at home. We are unable to see clients, so to get our minds off of the stress we are under since our business is closed until April 30th, we decided to use this time to help our communities.

Thank you so much for your interest and care in this cause.

Orders for standard/disposable masks are on long back-orders, due to both demand and supply chain issues. Other hospitals across the country are reporting the same supply concerns.

According to the CDC, fabric masks are a crisis response option when other supplies have been exhausted.

“Prior to modern disposable masks, washable fabric masks were standard use for hospitals,” said Dawn Rogers, MSN, RN, FNP-C, Patient Safety & Infection Prevention Office. “We will be able to sterilize these masks and use them repeatedly as needed. While it's less than ideal, we want to do our best to protect our staff and patients during this pandemic.”

Your donation will help off-set the expense of making these masks we are incurring. It takes around 12 minutes to make one double-layered, heavy-weave, 100% cotton, mask. Fabric ranges $5 to $10 per yard. Elastic is $28-$35 per roll at wholesale. We can make anywhere from 8-15 children's or adult masks, per one yard of fabric. Shipping costs will depend on the weight of the box full we send to a given location, anywhere from $12-$30. As of today we are up to 60 masks already made. We would love to donate 500 (or more, if possible!) by the end of the month of March!

It takes $2.55 to make 1 mask without a filter and $3 with a filter. Every dollar counts.

If you know an organization, hospital, senior home, etc., in need of these face masks, please contact us [email protected]

Your support will help hundreds within many communities. Thank you so much for your time and support!!
