I am launching this campaign to help a family start over. They are living in one of our units, but they need some help paying the rent (unfortunately, we're not in a position to be able to let them stay for free) and other bills as they put their lives back together. I've ballparked a goal amount that would pay rent, utilities, food, and miscellaneous expenses for 9-12 months as they get back on their feet. In order to protect their privacy and for their safety, I will not give specific details of their names, where they're from, etc. The short version of the story is that this woman and her two kids have had to flee their home due to a dangerous situation. Her husband became addicted to pain killers after back surgery and after years of begging him to get help, it was no longer a safe place for them to be. She has a protective order against him and he is currently awaiting trial on felony stalking charges. In the mean time, she is severely limited in her ability to work or secure housing because she is unable to do anything that would pull her credit or run her social security number (i.e., try to get a job, run a background check, open a bank account, etc.) as it could potentially notify him of her whereabouts. She has limited savings which will run out rather quickly. We've secured her temporary housing but that is predicated on her ability to pay the rent (she has a couple of months worth saved). I'm working on getting her some help from a food pantry for groceries, etc. They basically had to flee with whatever they could throw in a bag so they're more or less starting from scratch. Please help in whatever way you can. This is a family in crisis and they need all the kindness and support we can offer them.
