Our friends Carole and Shawn are struggling with unexpected medical bills & living expenses. Shawn was in between teaching jobs and insurance when he suffered a major heart attack. He was hospitalized and underwent 2 angioplasties and stenting due to 100% blockage in one major vessel and 80% in another. He was hospitalized for a week and is unable to work for the upcoming 4-6 weeks. Carole was in the process of adding Shawn to her insurance prior to this happening but it was not going to be effective until April leaving them without any insurance to help cover his stay and procedures as well as new medication, etc… Initially Carole was told her premium after adding Shawn would be $385 a month but has now been informed it will cost $385 a pay period. It is safe to say that they are emotionally, physically and financially exhausted. Carole has always been an exceptionally thoughtful and giving person even when she probably couldn't or shouldn't afford it. She's always feeding someone, lending a hand, planning a birthday, visiting you in the hospital, taking care of friends/ family and always the first one to show up with a gift and a dessert. We are asking for your help as they now have medical/hospital bills that far exceed most people's ability to pay (who have insurance) as well as maintaining normal daily living expenses, bills and the outrageous cost of Shawn's new medications.
