Felicia & Vince Fire Victims
At around 1 a.m. on October 9th, Vincent Gonzales awoke to flickering lights coming through his bedroom window. He immediately got up to check and noticed flames rushing down the hillside behind his Larkfield home. Vincent and Felicia had less than 10 minutes to get out with only a few important documents, medication and the clothes on their backs. They made it out alive but not after Felicia was rushing to get out in the dark (as the power went out) and tripped, landed on her arm and broke it. The home that they lived in for 3 years and everything inside is completely gone, including Vincent's truck that was parked in the carport. Due to Felicia's badly injured arm and the sciatica she suffers in her leg, they couldn't take Vincent's truck with them.
A series of unfortunate events have led up to this most devastating night. This isn't the first home they lost. Nine years ago in May of 2008, Vincent suffered a heart attack that he thankfully recovered from after going through a triple bypass surgery. Unfortunately, the impact of Vincent's health and recovery, made it difficult to sustain long lasting employment as the years went by, leaving Felicia to come up with the mortgage on her own. The stress from having to be the main breadwinner, being overworked as a Bank Manager, led to her getting struck with life-threatening viral pneumonia in December of 2009. She was in the hospital for a month before going home on disability for two more months. Felicia returned to work only to resign one year later (from the advice of her doctor) due to the high stress level it was causing her all over again. Sadly, within a few years they lost the home in a short sale, unable to refinance, they walked away with nothing.
