I’d like to share a bit of Camila’s story with you. She was a premature baby, born at 29 weeks of gestation weighing 3 pounds, 5 ounces. Her battle for survival began the day she was born, April 25, 2010; she spent nearly four months in an incubator, during which time she was diagnosed with a heart murmur and failed her hearing screening. At 18 months old, she was diagnosed with hearing loss, meaning she would need hearing aids for the rest of her life. At age four, she received a diagnosis of intellectual disability—another permanent condition—and at age eight, she was diagnosed with Level 3 autism. Camila has been a warrior, fighting through each of these diagnoses and facing life's ups and downs, yet she has always loved life and shown just how much she enjoys living.

At age 15, she began experiencing intestinal problems, which led us to an appointment with a gastroenterologist. The gastroenterologist ordered an ultrasound to determine the cause of her abdominal distension; the scan revealed spots on the intestine, prompting the doctor to order a colonoscopy, which unfortunately led to a diagnosis of ovarian cysts and endometriosis. The cost of the diagnosis and doctors bills have already been a financial struggle for the family. Additionally, the treatment is expensive, and there is a possibility she may need surgery. With all of these continued expenses, we are turning to you, the community for help. We are so appreciative for any assistance you may have to offer.
