Fighting to Breathe

I was born with cystic fibrosis, a chronic and life-threatening illness that has shaped every part of my life. From a young age, hospitals became a second home to me. While other kids were playing outside or going to birthday parties, I was often in hospital rooms, surrounded by doctors, machines, and treatments just to help me breathe.

Growing up this way changes you. I didn’t just see doctors—I relied on them. They became the people who helped me survive some of my hardest days. Because of them, I found a dream: I want to become a doctor too. I want to give back to others the same care, compassion, and hope that I was given throughout my life.

Recently, a new breakthrough medication—something I can only describe as a miracle—has given me a chance at a more independent life. For the first time, I’ve been able to pursue my goals in a way that once felt impossible. I’ve been working, going to school, and trying to build a future for myself while managing my illness. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it.

But cystic fibrosis doesn’t just go away. Even with this progress, I still live with chronic pain, constant coughing, and the daily reality that my health can change at any moment. And right now, I am in one of those difficult moments.

Since the beginning of March, my health has taken a serious turn. I have been in and out of the hospital due to coughing up blood, extreme fatigue, and persistent fevers. Because of this, I haven’t been able to work, and I’ve had to continue my schooling from home while trying to recover. It’s been physically and emotionally exhausting.

I am doing everything I can to keep pushing forward. Even on the hardest days, I choose to keep going—to keep believing in my future and the life I’m trying to build.

But right now, I’m scared.

Because I’ve been out of work for over a month, I no longer have the income I need to cover my rent. I am facing the very real possibility of not being able to stay in my home while I’m still trying to recover.

As hard as it is for me to ask, I need help.

Any support—whether it’s a donation or simply sharing my story—means more than I can express. It gives me a chance to focus on healing, to stay in my home, and to continue working toward the dream I’ve held onto for so long.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for being part of my fight.
