In February of 2017, my friend - who I will call Carly - was struck in the mouth by her abusive then fiance during an argument that he started. Because she tried to defend herself by throwing a lamp at him to stop him from hitting her again, they both were arrested for assault. During the fracas, Carly lost most of her front tooth and also bit down on the broken pieces, which caused her to lose part of the filling from her one remaining molar on the left side. Her abuser sits in jail, but Carly has been having a difficult time since that awful day. She only works a low paying retail position, and receives no benefits because she gets just 30 hours a week and they only have benefits for for full time (40 hour ) employees. She has been denied Medicaid due to her income, despite paying most of it out in rent and bills. Yesterday, she visited a dentist and was told that her molar is infected (hence the off again, on again dull ache that she's been dealing with since July), and the front canine, broken off at the gum as you can see by the photo, has caries and makes smiling for Carly difficult. She makes her own prosthetic tooth using Instamorph. Both teeth require immediate attention, particularly the molar. Unfortunately, she had to use most of her small savings of around $600 to pay for yesterday's dental visit (x rays, consultation) which cost $385. I can help my friend with a small donation, but I have a child and am in my own place with a job in housekeeping. I am here to ask for help from family, friends, and those who understand the psychological scars that result from being in an abusive relationship (Carly was in hers for 3 years and now suffers from PTSD, which she takes medications for, and is under a doctor's care). Please help me to make this a reality for Carly, because the dentist warned her that if nothing is done immediately to take care of the problem, it could grow worse at any time.
