Lisa Mello, who is married to Spindle City Church’s senior pastor Tom Mello, is heading up the effort that is funded through the city’s Community Development Agency. Pastors Tom and Lisa Mello have helped the city since 2012 serving the homeless by constructing temporary overflow shelter services. As of 2022, they opened a permanent overflow shelter and a drop in center Run by Lisa and volunteers of the church. With the help from Spindle City Church and the city’s outreach coordinator Nikki Fontaine, many individuals including myself got the love, support and help we needed to get housed. They gave people hope and went above and beyond to make sure employment and housing were successful.

Mayor Paul Coogan said he’d visited the overflow shelter over the winter, saying there is an absolute need for a place like the Timao Center, named for the Greek translation of “to honor.” 

However, after the year, the city officials have both not funded the center forcing the doors to have to close and haven't given any new insights as to how we can continue helping fix a huge crisis in the city. Instead, they have now inforced an ordaniance which can fine the homeless and eventually lead to legal issues. However, they have not said how the will get housing or employment and funds for the homelessness to come to an end.

This is where I am stepping in. My name is Christina Souza, born resident of Fall River, and I was saved by the overflow many times but saved spiritually as well at Spindle City Church in 2017. I am one of many successful stories and I know first hand that Tom and Lisa Mello are trying to help bring Fall River Back to where it belongs. We are God's children and we all deserve the love and compassion we need to get this done. My mission is to raise as much money as possible as an individual for a charity worth donating to. If money is raised and donations are made I believe we can open up doors and make it prudent to getting housing. Enough with these unhuman laws its time we start fighting for God's Work.
