Furry Friends Framinal Fa
Dear World,
please take a few minutes and get to know us and why we desperately require your assistance. I have never asked for any type of help from anywhere or anyone before today. I have always been proficient in regards to managing or surviving difficult circumstances even in times if, by just skirting by. Ive been gratefully fortunate the Lord blessed me as being capable of avoiding failure throughout life but presently, I'm facing a dilemma that requires the aid from others that I myself cannot successfully succeed alone. It's been a long journey from the time my ordinary household turned into a rescue ranch for animals up til why I'm here presently advocating for them. The results have blindsiding me financially. All ten (yes, I did say 10) of them have found their own individual way to my doorstep. Each of them carrying their own traumatic burden. All of them in dire need of a new start. A loving home, medical vet treatment (some needing emergency vet treatment) Food, toys, love, companionship, a reason to continue on and in search of a way to erase the scars from their previous living conditions. They all have different stories to tell but, for now, I'll keep it short and talk about a few of the circumstances that some are facing.
Cody is a Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) he made his way to me after being shot by his previous owner (who was also my neighbor) who for whatever reason he had, resulted in him shooting his puppies one by one. One of those puppies being clever enough to escape the confusing chaos and horrifying reality that he'd been betrayed and was being shot at, had realized he had to get away. He obviously escaped certain death when he scrambled under the fence and into my yard where he'd soon get my attention with his stumbling and falling over, howling and shuffling. As he closed the gap I observed the blood on his back. I heard the gun shots but the thought escaped me that anyone would shoot a puppy. My first guess was that he had injured himself on the fence but as soon as he was close enough for me to fully inspect his injury I could see the bullet hole. It made a 90° entry into his lower back just stopping short of his spine, without exiting. Appeared he was shot in the back while running away. I carefully swooped up his pathetic little body and carried him with me to call the cops. Witnessing the agony Cody was subjected to as we waited for the cops to arrive, seized my heart, like a broken anchor i could feel his pain as my heart fell heavily, sinking it deep within my soul.
The cops did nothing with seeking justice for Cody having to flee his drunken owners rampage inflicted upon him. And Cody was only a puppy and did nothing to deserve this. After their investigation they could only tell me, "they are his puppies to do with as he pleased". That is when I decided to adopt Cody. I took him to the emergency Vet at 12am who were not equipped to handle a bullet enlodgged so close to a puppy's spine and sent me on to the next emergency vet who kept him under close observation for any possible signs of running on pure adrenaline was subdued. By the time 12 hours had passed, they did all they could do and sent me to our primary vet who took us in upon opening and allowing us to hold up his entire day catering to Cody and trying to ease his pain. We carefully decided to leave the bullet in his back because surgery could cause additional complications. While keeping him under close observation to see if he could adjust to life with a clump of shrapnel in his back, if it moved closer to his spine or possibly later needing surgery.
A few days after Cody progressed into living his new best puppy life he began to precariously venture over to the fence where his life was so cruely impacted and sit down facing the face and just bark. It became a daily ritual. But something told me it was more then him telling off the person on the other side of the fence and I decided to investigate. I made my way to the gloomy other side not knowing what to expect as I kicked through fallen leaves and frozen tundra, there just a few feet in front of me, lay the lifeless body of a deceased tiny puppy. Just when I thought my heart couldn't break into any smaller pieces, it did. And it did and it did again. I brought his little body over to my yard and buried him where he could be loved even in death because he was loved by his litter mate who somehow knew he was there, all alone and wanted someone to rescue him. So I did. Cody relapsed a few months later due to an infection possibly caused by a weakend immune system imposed by the bullet and almost died. He was given 24hour care for 9 days constantly seizing and running a fever of over 104. He chose to live, so he fought. He fought hard. Because he was loved so much! He began to recover. Slowly. He had to relearn everything he knew from standing, walking even eating ( he couldnt remember how to eat or drink water) who he was, where he was, even his name. After weeks of rehab, bottle feeding, bathing and bonding, he finally came back! He also, stopped barking at the fence and has never barked at the fence again. It was a miracle he cheated death twice. I'm pretty sure he doesn't remember most of it if any memories at all remain but i often wonder what he knows after all he's been through.
Cody's story isn't the only one here. Mojo and Menew are twin 8 weeks old Heeler puppies each with a story. Kole, Pup-Pup, Rammie, Cameron, Chico, Gus and Bruno all have a story and need your help. They all need medical Vet attention, food, beds, treats, toys, vaccinations, operations, collars, harnesses, leashes, some need continuous care and Rx's etc. I've been caring for them and providing for them financially from the start of the 1st one finding my doorstep but I am financially depleted. They consume 50lbs of dog food and puppy food in one week alone. Some of them have never seen a real dog toy. They find an old sock or empty water bottle and I'm humbly asking you, my beautiful world, to please help us.
