Gabriel's Heart Journey
At 15 years old, Gabe is hard working, a silly prankster, a loyal friend, and a young man who fights to thrive when his body does not.
Waiting is hard. It is hard when it is for good things...a vacation, Christmas morning, time with a loved one you do not see often... It is difficult. Waiting for a phone call to let you know there is an organ which is a match is unlike anything I can describe. When our transplant team began the education process with us, we were amazed/shocked by how our lives would change, what will be required of us during the process and post transplant, as well as financially; we were overwhelmed. The idea of fundraising never crossed our minds. The expense of travel, lost hours at work, uncovered medical bills; and things we have not even begun to foresee; are the reason we are following the advise of the team and setting up various fundraisers. It is also a blessing for Gabe and our family to see people out and about with a necklace or t-shirt knowing they are standing with us in support through this process.
I would also ask, that when the time comes, Gabe and I will be in Rochester away from family, friends, classmates, and coworkers for quite some time. Loneliness may be a factor for both of us. However, at 15 Friends and social interactions are so important. If you think about it, shoot him a text, drop a quick card in the mail, or facetime him randomly; so he knows he is not all alone. Thank you, for your prayers and support as we walk through this difficult circumstance.
