My name is Cristian Henry, and I am reaching out regarding an accident I recently had at my building, which resulted in damage to the parking gate. My foot slipped off the brake, and because the area is so close to the gate’s control box, I inadvertently hit the gate.

My landlord, Brookfield Properties, is now charging me nearly $10,000 for the damage. Unfortunately, as many of you know, insurance rates significantly increased at the end of 2024, and at the time of the accident, my car insurance was inactive, so I am unable to seek assistance from them. Additionally, my renter’s insurance won’t cover this incident since it involved my vehicle.

I am 65 years old, still working until I reach full retirement at 67, and I cannot afford to cover the cost of the repair on my own. Brookfield has added the invoice amount of $9,970 to my rent balance, which I simply cannot pay I do not want to be evicted.

I am looking for assistance to handle this situation.
