Gaza Solar & Water
My name is Nina Christine Gorman (D.O.B 11-18-57) from Philadelphia, PA, USA. I am doing this campaign to help my friend Bashar Mohammed Salman Rock (D.O.B. 6/27/05) from Khan Yunis, Gaza, Palestine and his Gaza Pulse Team of volunteers to provide solar panels, water, food and medicine to their displaced persons camp of approximately 6,000 in Khan Yunis. I came to know Bashar at the beginning of the war in Gaza on Meta Facebook, with seeing how much he helped others with tent repair, sharing food, water and visiting the sick and providing them with food and medicine especially children with special needs. Before the war he was a pre medical student but his university like all in Gaza was destroyed. We have had many conversations in messenger about many things and I have been impressed by his strong and kind character, his integrity and ambition and big heart for others. When he told me he wanted to expand his work with his team of volunteers I agreed to do the campaign especially due to the great hardship of the displaced people in camps with having no electricity or clean water and the children malnourished from lack of food and with many sick and injured some from bombing and others from respiratory illnesses, and rashes because the water and sanitation infrastructure is mostly destroyed and the occupation blocks fuel and electricity as a means of war in collective punishment. They are living in tents with no electricity to cook, heat the tents or power phones or medical equipment for oxygen for the injured leading to more sickness and death.
Here is Bashar in his own words on the campaign:
In Gaza, where the blockade and occupation deprive people of the most basic necessities of life, thousands of people live in **temporary camps** without electricity, clean water, or even a stable source of food. In light of this suffering, we at the **Gaza Youth Pulse Team** decided to be part of the solution, and launched a campaign to establish **solar power stations** to provide electricity to the refugee camps, in addition to distributing food and water, and providing medical care.
## **Solar Energy Project to Save the Camps**
For more than **15 months**, Gaza has been living in complete darkness due to the blockade that prevents the entry of electricity, which has led families to rely on primitive and dangerous sources. The only sustainable solution is **providing integrated solar energy systems**, but the occupation prevents the entry of equipment, which greatly increases its cost.
### **What will we provide?**
We are working on installing **3 to 4 solar energy systems**, each providing **5 kilowatts** of electricity, to cover **a camp of 1000 tents** and operate **water wells**.
🔹 **Each solar system consists**6 solar panels** Each panel provides 410 watts of electricity and will be purchased from Canadian Solar Agency in the Gaza Strip cost per panel of $500
- **Two batteries (200 amps each)** at $500 per battery.
- **Electrical transformer and distribution device** with a capacity of 5 kilowatts at $700.
- **Electrical wires and extensions to cover the entire camp**.
**🔹 Total cost per system: $5000.**
**📌 Goal: Install 3-4 solar systems to light the camp and operate water wells.**
## **Other team initiatives**
In addition to the solar energy project, we want to continue to provide basic assistance to affected families:
✅ **Providing food and hot meals** to needy families with legumes, fish or chicken, rice, vegetables including eggplant, tomatoes, fruit as available and hot bread bundles of cheese or dairy with one platter feeding 3 to 4 people. The cost of one meal is **$10**.
✅ **Providing clean drinking water** by distributing **clean water gallons**, the cost of distribution is **$25**, which is enough to cover the needs of an entire family for **a whole week of 20-25 liters per day **. Water will be purchased from ETA. The price has increased due to **the scarcity of water purification materials due to the blockade**.
✅ **Providing safe cooking gas** for families, which reduces reliance on firewood that can lead to fires in tents.
✅ **Establishing a mobile medical clinic** and distributing free medicines in some camps, to provide necessary health care to needy families. Both prescription and non- prescription medications will be provided depending on the needs of the sick and injured including for influenza, rashes and chronic illnesses including for diabetes and high blood pressure. They will include Dicorate, Diclofenac, Aczare, and Congestale among others as well as gauze, wraps and ointments for rashes, burns and wounds.
## **Stories from the Field**
🔹 **Struggling for Water**: Every morning, children in the camps go out and walk long distances, carrying their containers, to stand in long queues in the hope of getting enough clean water for the day. Some days, they return to their families with containers that are half full or empty due to the lack of water.
🔹 **The Danger of Power Outages**: In one family, a child was suffering from respiratory problems and was dependent on a ventilator, but the repeated power outages caused the device to break down, posing a real threat to his life. This tragedy is repeated daily with thousands of patients who depend on medical equipment.
## **Why do we need your support?**
The occupation and the blockade prevent the entry of vital equipment, and significantly raise prices. The donations we collect will go entirely to purchasing and installing the equipment inside Gaza, to save the lives of thousands of people living without electricity or clean water.
**💡 How can your contribution make a difference?**
✅ **$10** = Provides a hot meal for a family.
✅ **$25** = Provides clean water for a family for a week.
✅ **$5,000** = Helps install a solar power plant for an entire camp.
## **How can you help?**
✅ **Donate now** – even a small amount can save a life.
✅ **Share our campaign** – Help us spread the word on social media.
Every donation is a ray of light in the life of someone living in darkness, and every share of our campaign could mean saving an entire family.
### **Together, we can bring light back to Gaza and save lives!**
