For three years now, I have dedicated my resources to this dream of helping my friend Marie Joelle leave her country of Haiti for new opportunities in Brazil, where her sister resides. Marie Joelle is very smart and full of life. She longs to be able to work hard, further her education, become a teacher, and have a family someday. At 22, she is about as accomplished as a young Haitian woman on her walk of life can be. I know she is destined for more. She speaks four languages including French, Creole, English and Brazilian Portuguese which will serve her well on her arduous solo journey! The original plan was that I escort her to Brazil, this is no longer possible. However, we've obtained her passport and her visa! All that is left is her transportation, emergency funds, and some seed money. U.S. dollars go super far in Haiti, DR, and Brazil (her bus/flight itinerary).
