Gillian's MS Diagnosis
Two weeks ago Gillian started feeling pins and needles in her feet. She thought it would go away but it didn't. Since recently moving to Seattle she didn't have insurance yet and didn't go to the doctor because of this. Unfortunately these symptoms didn't go away, over the last week she started having issues with depth perception and focusing her eyes. We also started noticing that she was slurring her speech and having a hard time tracking. Last night, 12-23-17 we decided enough was enough and we went to the E.R. They did a CTscan and after concerns with the results did an MRI. Last night, around 11pm we got the very scary diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). They admitted her and let us know she'll be here for 3 days while getting some really intensive steroids to stop her body from attacking itself. The neurologist came in this morning and showed us the MRI where we saw the ~40 lesions on her brain. We'll be spending Christmas in the hospital but hope to still make it to Holden for New Years like planned. Gillian is in good spirits and is feeling better than she has in a few weeks. Having answers, even hard ones, is a huge relief.
We're crossing our fingers that Gillian's insurance will retroactively cover these medical bills, but this will be a long road ahead. Being that she just moved to Washington she's struggling to stay afloat with her finances and hasn't been able to find a job here yet. This diagnosis is a huge wrench in her plan. Every dollar helps, 100% of these funds will go directly to Gillian for her to cover her expenses.
