Nafasi TransCare Support
The Nafasi TransCare Collective is a Black- and Indigenous-led, trans-centric community-based organization rooted in whole-person and spiritual wellness, mutual aid, and art-based advocacy, serving the Midwest and Central South. Nafasi exists as a living practice of reclaiming and reimagining our relationship to our bodies, lands, relationships, and futures. We are grounded in the belief that all people deserve access to safety, care, and dignity across size, ability, sex and gender variation, kinship, and place.
Since our founding in 2019, we’ve focused on building life affirming spaces for communal care without waiting for perfect conditions or permanent infrastructure. Our story begins and unfolds by simply creating space for healing, food sovereignty, cultural practice, learning, grief, joy, and creative expression among Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Intersex, Nonbinary, and Gender-Nonconforming community members. Through Earth-based ancestral practices and collective care strategies, Nafasi has grown into a valuable resource and advocacy network responding to real-time community needs in an increasingly hostile social, political, and economic climate.
In recent years, rising costs and increased demand for support have made sustainability our most urgent priority. While we still hold a long-term vision of a brick-and-mortar campus, our immediate focus is on keeping Nafasi alive so we can continue showing up for our people. If we are able to secure a significant gift or long-term investment, we would deeply appreciate support toward navigating and completing the land-bank and infrastructure development process to revive our vision of a physical campus in Kansas City. However, at this moment, we believe the best move for us is sustaining our ongoing programs, staff, and community response work.
To reflect our commitment to meeting people where they are while staying authentic to our path, we've taken on some different efforts to build collective capacity even as our resources stretch thinner and the stakes continue to rise. Funds raised so far have directly supported:
• Strengthening our organizational infrastructure through website updates, communications, and outreach materials
• Restocking and distributing Sapphic Safe Sex Kits and harm-reduction resources
• Sponsoring Sacred Organizing Trainings, including doula, community health worker, and other care-focused programs
• Providing direct aid to Black and Brown QTIGNC community members, including support for surgery campaigns, mental health care, transportation, housing fees, food access, and general survival needs.
• Offering mutual aid and micro-grants to fellow organizers, advocates, and aligned grassroots organizations
• Providing Heal Meals and affinity spaces for rest, connection, and collective care
• Producing and distributing zines and art centered on QTIGNC care, resistance, resilience, and storytelling
• Pouring into the needs of other small organizations with funds for care supplies, space rental, ECT.
• Spiritual and Chaplain services for families, community members and individuals
• Community education and wellness sessions for local QTIPOC
Supporting the work Nafasi is doing is supporting the work of everyone we work with. Your gift is an investment in living, growing community care. We hope you’ll join us in sustaining this work.
