My name is Samantha and I am a student at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. I am a member of the Global Medical Training (GMT) chapter at Bradley. GMT's mission is to provide basic healthcare to poverty stricken locations of  Latin American countries. This year, Bradley is sending a group of students to Peru. With the money provided to me here, it will fly me to and from Peru and provide a room and food for one week. Once there, I will take part in orientations and classes to teach me vital knowledge like the examination process, writing charts, and basic patient care. For a week, our group will work in the GMT Peru clinic providing services that the patients would otherwise not have access to. This care includes things like check-ups, providing expectant mothers with neonatal care, and supplying various medicines and supplements to patients. As a Biomedical Science major, aspiring to become a Pediatrician, this will give me early exposure to the healthcare field. Not only this, but I will continually learn about the Peruvian culture while living, working, and caring for the people of Peru. Lastly, the 8th and 9th days of our trip will be spent in Machu Picchhu where we will learn more about the history and culture of the country. While I am learning important knowledge on subjects, like Math and Science at Bradley, this opportunity allows me to gain field experience and learn to build strong relationships with patients. This life-changing opportunity will permit me to help people and expose myself to a completely different culture, two passions I have had my entire life.
