Eureka Guinea Pig Farm
Don't be ridiculous. Guinea pigs? Who cares about a bunch of rodents?
Okay, someone does, and some do, but who cares about them? They haven't effect on our real world of actual concerns. These pig folk are just mucking about their own sense of importance as if it made a squit bit of difference to any. There are more deserving people who matter deeply, in far worse circumstances. Get a sense of proportion, for Zod's sake.
No, it's not a trick to flip an argument for animals as if they had rights. It's actually the case. Look at it this way. Then that, and the other. People matter. Creatures are disposable. Unless we choose otherwise. The only rights animals have are the ones we give them. They are quite unaware of the concept. It is we, who are not.
But when animals matter so much people are disposable, something is up. Can't say what's off, but it's not on. Some say get help. Could one possibly be more judgmental at not caring? The situation exists. Do they deserve better than a clever bit of snark? Not to most. But hold up. Their heart's in the right place, and are not stupid. See if you've some idea of what is actually up, before dumping clever notions to click off like you know better.
We might like, twitter or post, but more than opinion is rare occurrence. Chance exception in something exceptional enough to allow consideration. If not to most, to us. They're guinea pigs. There are a lot of stuff to care about, they are easily dumber than most, but in general regard they deserve better than it seems they get. Concerning personal arrangements, they do okay. Most often considered entirely useless creatures, they got nothing, it's true. But love in their hearts. They love being warm and fed. Go figure.
Can a few of the vast many provide more than sentiment or opinion as to their means of existence? We must all take what we get. Nature takes care of things one way or another. I'd as soon be a bulwark to natural tendencies based on a simple wish to better our lives, or at least extend them in a relative well being that compares favorably even just to the alternative. Good sense says I can't each day, but hope and faith says just not yet. I work and will for it. Seems worth the wonder if some think help means much, to consider what that is. It's all the world to pigs. Apparently not what ours seems to most, from their view.
We've a view to guinea pigs as an aggregate entity. Ours eat enough to feed a horse. It got up to two horses recently, a shelter came up and got what amounted to one for their purposes. Their method of resolving difficulty this presented seemingly requires we be in literally the worst light imaginable, that they might beg sympathy for expense incurred as a rescue suddenly in need of rescuing. It is easier done with blame elsewhere but in light of it, can hardly be considered the favor that was offered. We wish them well despite such shocking representation and good fortune to their efforts. For sake of pigs. But their media blitz has most knowing where to sit in judgment and though reminded it says more of those who judge, I see what they are given to understand. Media monetizes discord, which can easily be given national, even international fame in an unabashedly selective stretching of fabrication to proportions purported sufficient warrant for attention. A rare commodity these days that has fewer than ever given to qualms over the truth. Being the source of it, we are absolutely amazed at how far it is made to go. There is purpose to it. Yay, pigs! You got not ignored! Why is that, I wonder? Such hyperbole has little semblance to a simple reality that can be measured in the cost of happiness. For pigs, it is in carrots, pellets, shavings, hay and grass. Others take their measure and find us wanting. But if they presume to see suffering in animals, it can only be in a view dependent on representation toward ends. They might see something more than what is said in what we do, but it cannot be related in any better terms.
Choosing belief without knowledge is more a matter of desire and motivation than a sense of compassion. Would that compassion had more to do with care. Ours is combined with effort that merits some forbearance to the less hysterical, allowing some reservation for those more practical and tolerant. Guinea pigs are wonderful creatures for eliciting heartfelt emotional considerations. Such things can be misused in attempting to profit in sympathies. Were representations nearer truth I would give them credence, even justification. But we are nearer pigs. The threat we note is over concern for their well being, largely from what is expressed by a relative few. The general sentiment is; "Poor pigs. Stupid people. Someone should do something." We are taken in by their well meaning also, until we note its' opposite effect. They may have satisfaction. Defending the happiness of these creatures has cost much of our own.

For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.
-Carl Sagan
How we feel about them is impractical and does not reconcile with standards by any measure but those between our selves and that of pigs. It is said to be good if one lives for others, but I doubt this as what is meant. It comes down to a question of values. We value their lives sufficiently to persist. As do they. Would that others saw what we do, they might forgive us our indulgence of effort toward their care.
