Gun Violence Survivor Fund
Hello! My name is Misty, my family and I are gun violence survivors. After my son had to watch his friend shoot another friend in the face with an easily accessible rifle I became a Gun Violence Prevention Advocate. 91 Americans are killed every single day by gun violence in America. What happens after the loved one dies, and what about those that survive gun violence are are left with injuries and long-term trauma?
I work closely with many other survivors of gun violence, giving my support and love in time of need. In my --almost 4 years of Gun Violence Prevention Activism I have found one very important and heart breaking thing. After the thoughts and prayers of loosing a loved one to gun violence, what happens? Most of the time the answer is disappointing. After a loved one is lost to gun violence we seem to forget about that "headline" and move on to another one, often forgetting about the long term needs of the survivor. The cost of a funeral is outstanding and the financial burden from that can cause great strife on a survivor. Loosing a household income could be even worse.
It is important that we show support even after the thoughts and prayers --even if all the support we can give is love! My goal with this campaign is to raise money and get donations to help out gun violence survivors in need. They may only need a pair of shoes for their son, or a hot dinner on the table, but what ever they need I want to help.
My vision is to get money donations, gift cards, clothes donations, and tech donations ex: computers. With donated money I will purchase gift cards for groceries or pay a utility bill. I would love to give donated computers to survivors who want to go back to school or start in gun violence prevention. My main goal is to create a nonprofit to continue being able to give back.
