Hazey Acres is a Queer + Trans artist residency and respite in the swamps of North Florida. We are currently fundraising to build an accessible outhouse to expand the amount of visitors we can host and the types of programming we can offer.

Much more info about Hazey can be found at www.hazeyacres.com but in brief: Hazey Acres exists in the belly of the beast of Florida - a magical beautiful land teeming with life, and a political hellscape for queer and trans people. Our mission exists at this intersection - to provide an important artistic exchange and respite for queer folks in florida, and to bring people from beyond Florida to experience the unique wonders of this land and people instead of writing Florida off as a horrible place. Can you help us keep Florida queer and grow this magical space that offers creativity, connection, and relief to so many?

We have a construction friend who has a team ready to come bust out this outhouse whenever we raise the money. He has agreed to do the complete build for a friend rate of $8000. We have $2000 saved for it so need $6000 more.

Our minimum goal to raise is $6000 and our stretch goal is $8000. If 150 people can donate $40, we can reach our low goal and if 100 people donate $80 we can reach our larger goal. (With our larger goal, we’d be able to keep $2000 in the bank for other costs and repairs vs using up everything)

Why an outhouse? Hazey currently has two guest rooms to host residents. We also renovated a small shed into a little cabin and are creating two rustic campsites on the land. These new outdoor spaces need bathroom facilities before we can offer them. We also host movie screenings, concerts, fireside singalongs, art builds, etc. and need more toilets for visitors. We’ve identified not having an outhouse as the main roadblock to our desired small-scale expansion goals. The outhouse is planned to be a spacious two-stall building, each with a composting toilet, with a ramp for accessibility.
