One afternoon, our facility took us to an airfield. While the other children rushed to the larger, historic battle planes, my nerves led me to a quiet, small two-seater. That plane became the backdrop for the moment that changed my life. Once we were up in the sky, the pilot looked at me, pointed to the controls, and told me to take hold of the lever. He gently instructed me to turn it to the left. As the earth tilted beneath the glass canopy, a wave of profound peace washed over me. For the first time in my life, the heavy feelings of being forgotten, lost, or surrounded by strangers vanished. In that sky, I was free from my problems.Decades passed, and life took over. I spent 20 years working as a manager in the pet industry, dedicating my time to others while neglecting my own well-being. After leaving that career, the suppressed pressure caught up to me. My anxiety hit an overwhelming peak, shattering my self-esteem and leaving me feeling completely out of control. In my darkest moments, I am working closely with a therapist and a psychologist to heal and rediscover who I am.During this healing process, the memory of that ten-year-old boy in the cockpit came rushing back. I realized I needed to reclaim that feeling of absolute peace and freedom.With no idea how I would fund it, I took a leap of faith and enrolled in paramotor classes. My incredible trainer has pushed me past my comfort zones using the school's gear. For the first time in my 41 years, I am actively choosing to pursue something that brings me pure, unfiltered joy.Initially, when my husband and my best friend suggested I start a GoFundMe, I resisted. Growing up, I associated asking for money with survival and vulnerability, which deeply uncomfortable. But I am learning that asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it is a testament to growth. I am no longer a victim of my past or my mental health—I am a survivor.I deeply wish my mother were still here to see me fly solo for the first time. Though life had different plans, I have been blessed with a chosen family. My spouse constantly pushes me forward. My best friend has become the older sister I never had, her husband fills the role of the father I never knew, and my little sister and cousin offer unwavering love.Now, I face a hurdle. To complete my training and earn my certification, I need to invest in my own personal paramotor equipment. My ultimate goal is not just to fly, but to become a certified trainer myself.
