Help after work injury

Our transit family is coming together to support one of our own during an incredibly difficult time.

Five months ago, our coworker’s life changed in an instant. While driving through a green light, Mike was struck by another driver who ran a red light — a completely preventable accident that left Mike with serious injuries and a long road to recovery. Since that day, Mike has been unable to return to work, focusing instead on healing and rebuilding his strength.

Behind every injured worker is a family carrying the weight of uncertainty. While insurance claims slowly move through the system, the reality has been harsh. Washington State L&I benefits have not been enough to cover basic living expenses, and the financial strain on his household has grown month after month. Bills continue to arrive even when paychecks do not.

Those of us who work alongside Mike know his character — dependable, hardworking, and always willing to step up for others. Now he needs that same community support in return.

This fundraiser is about helping a good person and his family stay afloat while he recovers and waits for the insurance process to catch up with reality. Contributions will go toward essential expenses: housing, utilities, groceries, medical costs, and the everyday needs that don’t pause after an accident.

If you are able, please consider donating or sharing this page. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ease the burden and reminds this family that they are not facing this alone.

Let’s stand together the way transit workers always do — looking out for one another when it matters most.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.
