A Mother's Plea: Help Alexavier Fight for His Future

My son, Alexavier Meyer, is a warrior. At just 10 years old, he faced a pilocytic astrocytoma, a brain tumor that caused a stroke due to hydrocephalus. The tumor was larger than a lime, sitting atop his brain stem, contorting it. The image of him, immobilized and terrified for a week with a drain in his brain awaiting resection, is forever etched in my memory. The pressure in his brain was so intense that, during the bedside drain procedure, the fluid shot feet across the room when they punctured his skull. He spent months in the hospital, enduring multiple surgeries, including two 3rd ventriculostomies and biopsies, followed by intensive rehabilitation at Children's Specialized Hospital. Throughout this ordeal, we have been blessed to align with the most prestigious and respected doctors and surgeons on the eastern seaboard, seeking the best possible care for Alexavier. Now, at 16, Alexavier faces another daunting battle: his tumor is regrowing. While it's currently inoperable unless it grows larger, his surgeon is hesitant to operate and strongly recommends exploring all other options first. The thought of chemotherapy is terrifying; it could be fatal, and Alexavier doesn't want to endure it at this time. This time, the fight isn't just physical. Beyond the permanent facial paralysis and the damage to his eye (caused by prolonged closure issues, resulting in double vision and requiring corrective surgery), the tumor's resurgence has brought mental health struggles, sleepwalking, and concerning symptoms that break my heart. He has also experienced some hearing and vision loss. We are exploring every possible avenue, combining medical expertise with holistic approaches, determined to give Alexavier the best chance at a full and joyful life.
