Help Bring Nathan Home

Hi everyone, and thank you for taking a moment to read this.

Early Tuesday morning (October 7), my partner, Nathan, was arrested near Griffin, GA while driving for Uber in a rental car he had picked up just the night before. The Deputy Sheriff who stopped him claimed the tags were expired. Although Nathan showed valid digital copies of the registration, insurance, and rental agreement, the car was impounded, its contents inventoried, and Nathan was arrested.

Thankfully, the most serious charges were dropped immediately by the District Attorney, but Nathan is still being held in the Spalding County Detention Center on a $17,000 bond.

A close friend has generously agreed to advance the $2,065 cash portion required by the bail company and sign the surety bond so Nathan can come home. On Tuesday afternoon as this all was unfolding another friend stepped in to help secure legal counsel by using funds he already had on retainer with an attorney.

I’ve launched this FreeFunder campaign to raise $3,000 to repay the cash portion of Nathans's bail, make a partial repayment on the retainter for his attorney, and provide initial funding for Nathan’s legal defense fund for upcoming costs. FreeFunder doesn’t charge platform fees, but their payment partner, Stripe, deducts 2.9% per transaction, so the goal also accounts for that small overhead.

Georgia law prohibits nonprofits from providing bail assistance, and neither of our families are in a position to help. We were already in the middle of an unwanted and ill-timed move after facing eviction from our previous housing, and I simply cannor manage this cost alone.

Getting Nathan home is essential — not only for his well-being but for our stability, as we work to keep things together and care for our dogs, settle into new housing, and try to regain our footing.

If you’re able to contribute, no matter the amount, it would make a huge difference. If you can’t give right now, please consider sharing this campaign or sending a few words of encouragement — it all helps more than you might imagine.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of the community that helps us keep going.

With gratitude,

Will
