My name is Ciara, and I'm a young Black girl from Chicago with a passion for the classics.

When I started high school, I decided to take Latin 1 because I was fascinated by ancient Rome and thought learning the language might help me as an aspiring future surgeon.

Over the years, my interest in the culture, history, and especially the religious traditions of ancient Rome has only grown stronger. I've taken every level of Latin my school offers, and now, as a senior in AP Latin, I have the chance to bring my studies to life in a way l've always dreamed of.

This summer, my class is traveling to Rome, and it would be my very first time leaving Chicago. The opportunity to walk through the streets of Rome, visit the temples, and see the art and architecture l've studied for years would be a dream come true. I'm excited to learn more about each piece and its meaning, and to experience firsthand the traditions and beliefs that have shaped so much of our world. For years, it's been my dream to see a real temple in person, and this trip would make that possible.

The funds raised will go directly toward travel and program costs, making it possible for me to join my classmates on this unforgettable journey.
