Here's how it started...

Danielle was vacationing July 2021 when the first symptoms appeared. She gained 23 pounds of fluid in in four days. Eighteen years old, sick and afraid, she made a difficult journey home alone and was admitted to one of the world's best hospital systems.

It took them a week to diagnose her “mystery” illness, but finally gave the shocking news that she had a rare form of ovarian cancer. Doctor Google says that this type of cancer is typically slow growing, but Danielle's didn't seem to get that memo.

After two major abdominal surgeries and treatment, Danielle and Peter married, determined to face joys and struggles together.

(Update 1/2023: Danielle has had a third surgery in which they removed the remaining ovary, uterus, appendix, and part of her colon)

Danielle's cancer markers continued to rise and she has was accepted for specialized care with an oncologist in CA involving multiple trips and an extended stay. Peter traveled with her, and though they were blessed to have understanding employers and good medical care, their expenses were (and continue to be) overwhelming.

Insurance has denied many basic aspects of care, including chemo, therapeutic treatments recommended by her physicians, and CT scans following surgeries.
