Help Emma Thrive
Becca and Winston would never ask for help from everyone, but I will.
Their oldest daughter Emma is 5 years old, autistic, non-verbal and requires a lot of care & supervision. Elopement (escape/running) risk is very high, along with hyper fixations and with her not recognizing danger…safety is a constant concern. She is sensory seeking with water, anything mechanical & climbs with ease. She's only getting bigger, stronger & smarter. Simple baby proofing tactics no longer work, she figures them out in no time. Safety & security measures constantly have to evolve and be switched out in the home. The expenses not covered by insurance adds up very quick.
We've researched grants & additional resources, outside of what Becca has already started the process for. It's all a waiting game. Some things just can't wait as far as safety is concerned & also keeping Emma comfortable with her sensory needs. Soon, the process will start for acquiring a cubby medical safety bed covered by insurance! Unfortunately a lot of things are not covered by insurance, things that make every day life less stressful & anxiety ridden for their family.
With the recent move, things getting lost in the move and the painfully slow process of changing all her medical care to a new state… there is a 2 year waitlist to get her the care and therapy she needs in their area. She will hopefully will be bumped up after her evaluations. This process has taken longer than expected. She's in a funk with being home more & out of her therapies for so long.
She will need to stay with us some when Becca works or when other members of their family have appointments. Emma is comfortable in our home, familiar with us and we are educated in the care she requires. Our home has to be completely “Emma proofed” as well. The previous safety measures we had in place for her are no longer effective.
I put a list together on Amazon for items needed in both homes for Emma if you feel inclined to help. It would be a blessing & they would be so incredibly grateful for anything! If you would like to donate in another form other than Amazon, I have created this fund that will go directly to them for her care.
