Help for Roya and Kevin
Hello friends, old, new and yet-to-be-met. Thank you for coming to look at our fundraising page today. We respect and appreciate your time, so we'll save the details for later for whoever wants to read them. In brief, this is our situation: we, despite our best efforts and after no small amount of frustration, have come to the conclusion that we must sell our house and find somewhere more affordable. We have very little in the way of any assets right now and we are also not making money as fast as our bills demand. We did our best, but we might have held on too long trying to make this work, which of course creates its own additional financial and health-related struggles. We know that everyone is going through their own difficulties and we would never ask anything from anyone who couldn't afford to share. That said, we are hoping that some of you are doing ok for yourselves and may want to help if we just announce the need. If you found this page and are able to contribute today, thank you so much. In all seriousness, every little bit really does help. If you're here and you feel for our situation but you can't afford to contribute, please consider sharing for us anywhere you can. Lastly, if you feel for us and for whatever reason have nothing you can give, we love you too. Wish us well.
Now for a look into how our life has been. This will be honest and true, which some people might find difficult, but we don't feel that at this time secrecy or making light of the situation serves anyone. We moved to our beautiful old house in April of 2025 and instantly fell in love with it. We were near to Kevin's family for the first time in quite a long while, we loved being in the country, and we connected with the local dog rescue and helped more than a few pups in the area find their way back home. We felt a part of the community in a real and beautiful way. In fact, since our wedding in May of 2026 the local grocery store staff knows us affectionately as "The Newlyweds". But things were also a struggle right from the start. Plans didn't come together the way we hoped they would and we've both had our health challenges.
For Kevin, the baseline is difficult mental health. Depression and anxiety have been lifelong companions. Back pain, the really bad kind that leaves you unable to get around for a few days after a flare-up, has been in the mix for over 10 years. Also, Kevin lives with undiagnosed but almost undeniable neurodivergence. Without being able to get a diagnosis, which is currently inaccessible to him, he doesn't want to claim any diagnosis. That said, social discomfort, sensory issues, masking and an awareness of a "different" thought process have always been under the surface. Most recently, as our wedding approached, Kevin's meds for depression, anxiety and related issues started to make him sick to his stomach on a daily basis. With our wedding on the horizon and more confidence in handling his mind than his stomach, he had to stop his mental health meds. While this did provide some relief, and slowed the rate of damage being done, it of course has been a great difficulty managing his mental health and emotional well-being. It also did not completely stop the digestive damage, which has been a growing problem. He works hard and is in therapy regularly, but getting his meds restarted through the VA has been an uphill battle and circumstances have only added to the stress. He'll soon be seeing a GI specialist to find out what can be done for his digestive issues and then, hopefully, to find some relief from his mental health.
Sidenote: We think it worth saying that, although we are trying to be as thorough and honest as we can that we are unable to share everything. Both Kevin and Roya have a number of "lesser" diagnoses that make things harder for them but are too many to list here. Our goal, even here, is to be to the point.
For Roya, having long covid and fibromyalgia has made them unable to work. They managed to land two different jobs since living in their home and were unable to continue employment at each due to the inability to get all of the tasks done. Roya's long covid and fibromyalgia symptoms are exacerbated by heat, which made the warmer months extremely difficult to live in, especially in a house that was too old to stay cool. Roya had some success performing music at local restaurants, but this still was not a stable source of income. Roya has been struggling with just helping keep the house in order, let alone working. But their disability benefits have been denied for 5 years and counting and, while they're not giving up, there isn't any change forthcoming that they can see.
Between all these factors, simple things become inaccessible. Our house is beautiful but also has had issues come up that we have been unable to repair. We still, despite a wealth of support and assistance from family near and far, don't even feel moved in really. This is still somewhere we were trying to find a way to make our own. In a different life, we'd be investing in this place, not divesting ourselves of it.
At the end of it all, loved ones, we have each other's backs and truly believe that it will all work out for us, perhaps just in an unexpected way. Your contribution today might help us pave the path we follow. We know the support and community we have gathered around ourselves and we are repeating, often, to ourselves to try and get this done while also taking care of yourselves. Thank you again for any level of support you can offer, and take good care of yourselves and each other.Thank you for your time.
