This pregnancy has been blow after blow for Shira and her family. They expected the hyperemesis that seems to get worse each baby but then being plagued by constant UTI's during the entire first trimester was awful. Finally feeling a bit better they were thrown into a new realm after their 20 week scan revealed some potentially serious health issues with their baby. This roller coaster included multiple trips to Anchorage to see the specialist along with a whirlwind trip with 6 appointments back to back at Seattle Children's Hospital. Finally home and letting all the news sink in, Shira was hit with another round of passing kidney stones, not a new thing but this time even more brutal. Eventually she went back to the hospital (not the first time for this) and was found to have a 14mm (that's over half an inch) stone completely blocking her kidney and she was now septic. Her BP was dangerously low and she needed surgery right away. They almost had to stop the surgery and medivac her to Anchorage but finally were successful in placing a stent. Where in surgery the surgeon found a 16.9mm stone also blocking the kidney. It's definitely been touch and go but seems (knock on wood) we are out of danger. However this whole ordeal is far from over as they can't remove the stone(s) until after delivery and she needs to take it easy for the next 10ish weeks. Obviously with 4 small children this is no easy task. Her husband Dan runs a roofing business and Alaskan summer is when his work is the heaviest. She's currently still in the JCU and don't know when they will release her. We are asking for donations to help this sweet family as they will either need to hire a helper for Shira or Dan will need to stay home more which obviously affects income.
