My name is Jamie, and I am currently homeless with my four small dogs. We are staying in a vacant lot that I have spent hundreds of hours cleaning, removing trash, debris, and old wood to make it better than I found it. I know that sometimes the homeless community is seen in a negative light because of the mess left behind, but I have always tried to show respect for the neighborhood and keep my space clean and hidden. Every place I have stayed, I have done my best to leave it better than when I arrived.

Recently, new city laws have made it even harder for us. The city has told me I have to leave the lot by the end of the week, and if I am caught there after that, I could be arrested. I have experienced these sweeps before—being woken up early, given just minutes to gather my things, and watching as city workers throw away what little I have left. I have lost everything this way, including my dogs' belongings. It is humiliating and heartbreaking, but I am trying to do the right thing and follow the law. To make things worse, I have been sick from being out in the cold and rain, and it has been hard to find the energy to keep going.

I am asking for help so that my dogs and I can have a safe, warm place to stay, even if just for a little while, and hopefully through the holidays.
