Help Katie and Seline!

Hello, my name is Chris Powell, and I'm here to ask your help for my girlfiend, Kathryn (Katie) Sims, and her daughter, Seline. They are in an ongoing, expensive ordeal, trying to care for Seline's mental health and secure a more stable future for both. Katie and Seline are survivors, both experiencing PTSD as they deal with a very shaky financial reality of bills, medical expenses, and food insecurity.

Katie is on disability due to injury, but that does not come close to covering their monthly needs. I have known her for over seven years now, and she has had to fight nearly every day to keep their stomachs full and the electricity on through brutal Texas summers and winters. Some days, not even a full stomach is a guarantee. Seline is currently in therapy and needs to continue her prescriptions. Additionally, Katie and Seline have decided that it is best for them both if Mom has power of attorney in case Seline experiences another mental health crisis.

We want to be as open and honest as possible in what is needed and how much it all may cost, but honestly it is very difficult to make an exact estimate. Currently we are asking for $4,000 in assistance, with the following being our best breakdown of that amount:

$1,000 in fees to lawyers and the courts for Katie to establish medical power of attorney over Seline. In a previous crisis, having PoA would have done a lot to help Katie. By having this done, regardless of her daughter's mental state, Katie can more effectively care for her.

$1,000 in prescriptions and incidental medical costs over the next year. Currently, Seline's prescriptions cost just under $100 a month, and having that cost off their backs for a while would be an enormous relief.

$2,000 to cover ongoing transportation to therapy, bills that are always piling up, expenses from the recent crisis, and maybe a little extra just for breathing room.

Katie and I have, unfortunately, been forced to be long-distance for a long time now, but let me tell you what I love and respect about her, and why I still want to take care of her and Seline despite the distance. Katie has a kind, giving heart. She has opened her home to stray animals over the years: Two dogs who are sadly no longer with us, and a kitten that brings joy to Seline. Katie is trained as a nurse, and when Camp Mystic had its flooding emergency in 2025, despite the financial and physical hardship, she volunteered her skills to assist in the subsequent search and rescue operation. She has been my confidante and cheerleader, even as I have dealt with my own struggles. She and Seline have survived so much over their lives: Domestic violence, a bad car accident, extreme weather, hunger, and mental health anguish. They are fighters, but no one should have to fight so hard for so long. I implore you for your help in making their lives a little easier at this very difficult time, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
