Help Me Go Back To School
In 2003, I graduated from High School with pretty good grades and was able to attend college with multiple scholarships without having to take out any student loans. I attended school for 2 semesters until my mother was in a horrible accident. She was hit by a truck (She was standing beside her vehicle after she was rear ended at a light, and a drunk guy driving a truck came around the corner and literally hit her).
I had to withdraw from school to take care of my mother as she was unable to walk, feed herself, clean herself, etc for almost a year.
Before I was able to re-enroll in school I had to pay back the scholarships I was riding on. So, I had to get a job, but with no education except for my High School Diploma I was stuck being a waitress at places like Steak-n-Shake and Applebee's. At the time, the base pay was only $2.15 an hour and the area that I stay in, people would only leave small tips. I was only making about $125.00 a week. So I was unable to make payments outside of $5.00 a month. I eventually found a job as a secretary making $10.00 an hour, which still wasn't much considering there is no public transportation where I live so I had to pay for gas, car note, light bill, etc. So I decided to do something to get more money.
In Mississippi you do not have to attend college to become a Pharmacy Technician. You only have to pay for the registration and then pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam within 12 months.
I ordered some books, studied on my own and passed on my first try. Now I am working as a Compounding Pharmacy Technician, and making a better income where I can effectively provide for my family.
Between the years of 2004 – 2015 I was able to effectively pay off all my debt, or so I thought.
When I went to reenroll in school, I was told that they made a mistake and I still owe $925.00. This sucks because I now have a house note, car note, insurance, a family, etc that I am taking care of.
I took forever paying off the debt and I only went back to reenroll thinking I was financially free. My goal is to finish school, move on to graduate school and work as an attorney at a non-profit facility for poor POC that need legal help and cannot get it. Now I'm fearful because this is just another stumbling block. I'm already 32 years old and I'm terrified that it will take me forever to pay this off. I really want it paid off so I can start fall classes this year. If anyone can help me pay this off, I would be most grateful!
