Hi, my name is Janaeh, and I’m raising funds to help cover the cost of a cornea transplant and the medical expenses associated with restoring my vision.

I have Keratoconus, a progressive eye condition that causes the cornea to thin and change shape. My cornea is forming on top of my pupil— into a cone shape, severely distorting vision. 

In August 2019, I lost clear vision in one eye. By February 2020, I lost clear vision in my other eye as well. Today, I am legally blind.

I am incredibly grateful that I am able to function with the help of specialized scleral contact lenses, but they are not a permanent solution. My lenses cost approximately $1,800, are extremely fragile, and need to be replaced regularly—typically yearly. My ability to see and function every day depends on having these lenses available and maintaining them properly.

That also means constantly keeping up with contact solutions, eye plungers used to insert and remove the lenses, cleaning supplies, replacement devices, and the other ongoing expenses that come with wearing scleral lenses.

Without them, my vision is severely limited.

After years of depending on expensive medical lenses just to see clearly, I want the opportunity to have my vision restored without my everyday life depending on a fragile pair of hard-lens contacts.

As a single mother, regaining my vision and independence would be life-changing. I want to be able to navigate everyday life, work, care for my child, and experience the world without constantly worrying about what happens if a lens breaks, needs replacing, or I can no longer afford the supplies required to maintain them.

A cornea transplant could give me the opportunity to restore functional vision and regain some of the independence that Keratoconus has taken from me.

I’m asking for help because the financial burden of the procedure and the expenses surrounding treatment and recovery are more than I can manage alone. Donations will go toward costs related to my transplant, medical appointments, medications, transportation, recovery, and other necessary expenses associated with my treatment.

For me, this isn’t simply about seeing more clearly.

It’s about independence. It’s about being able to provide for myself and my child. It’s about no longer having my ability to see depend on an expensive, fragile medical device every single day. And most of all, it’s about the possibility of seeing the world clearly again.
