My name is Samantha and I am a percussionist. I marched in my high school marching band, and now I am a part of the bass drum line in the Minuteman Marching Band at UMass Amherst. I have met so many amazing people through being in different music programs and ensembles. So many of my peers have marched in a drum corps. They have made everlasting memories and friendships through marching, and now I am hoping to do the same! It has been a dream and a goal of mine for quite some time now to take part in this activity, but time and money have always been obstacles for me in the past. Now that I am 21, it is my last year that I am eligible to march before I "age out," so I figure it's now or never. I've auditioned and earned a spot on the bass line with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps, and I could not be more excited to be a part of this organization! We will be traveling around the United States on a bus, practicing at different locations along the way, sleeping on gym floors, and performing at shows, all while constantly being surrounded by fellow musicians. It is an experience unlike any other, and I am excited and ready to experience it for myself this summer. However, this experience comes with a pretty hefty price tag, so I'm reaching out for the support of my family and friends to assist me with the financial aspect of this activity.
