Help Save Meepy Alvin's Life!
My meepy baby Alvin stopped eating a full meal last Friday March 17th. We call him that because he doesn't meow like other cats, he meeps. The last 2 days he has only eaten tiny amounts of food. I have been giving him a high calorie supplement since Sunday and he's still mostly drinking water on his own, but he needs to eat full meals.
We took him to the vet yesterday and they gave him fluids, antibiotics and pain meds. They told us that he needs oral surgery in the next few days to have most or all of his teeth removed due to an autoimmune condition called Feline Stomatitis in which his mouth is literally allergic to the plaque that builds up on his teeth and gums. The estimate for the procedure is $800, but that doesn't include follow-up treatment and any additional procedures or treatments that he might need if there are any complications or if the infection in his mouth has caused any damage to his kidneys or other organs or if he is one of the rare cases that will need lifelong medications to reduce pain and inflammation in his mouth.
I suffer from several disabilities and haven't been able to work for a number of years. I was working as a First Grade Teacher and completing my credential when I started to suffer from heart problems, fainting spells and extreme fatigue. I was already struggling through a seizure disorder and with constant back pain from severe scoliosis. My only income is a small loan called General Relief that I get from the state in the amount of about $200 a month. My fiancee has a low paying job and we live paycheck to paycheck and sometimes have to pay bills late. We live with his parents because we can't afford our own apartment. My parents are homeless and live in a motel. All of the few credit cards we have are maxed out. We both applied for Care Credit, both separately and together and were denied. There's no way we can come up with this amount of money so quickly.
I literally brought his tiny body back to life when he was a newborn kitten by pumping his heart to beat when he almost froze to death the day he was born a little over 6 years ago. He is the sweetest, loving social kitty and he really wants to eat, but can't because he is afraid his mouth will hurt. It's looking like he won't eat on his own until after the surgery and he won't last much longer without a full meal. Please help save my meepies!
