I’m a single mother working full-time and juggling two part-time jobs, all while raising my 10-year-old daughter and caring for our rescued pets—a senior pup, three cats, and a few geckos. Life took a tough turn when an ice storm hit our area in February, forcing me out of work for a week. That one setback made it hard to catch up, and since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to keep up with bills. My full-time job doesn’t always guarantee 40 hours, so if a client cancels, I lose out on much-needed income. Despite working multiple jobs and searching for more opportunities, the rising cost of living keeps making things harder.

Recently, there was gunfire in my apartment complex’s parking lot. No police came, and nothing was done. Thankfully, my daughter wasn’t home at the time, but the thought of her being in danger is something no parent should have to face. I’m grateful that my bills are current, but I’m worried about the months ahead. My lease ends in December, and my dream is to save enough to move somewhere safer—ideally, to buy land and build a home where my daughter can grow up safely and happily.
