My condo building recently experienced a devastating sewage flood after MSD's sewer system backed up through six manholes. The pressure overwhelmed the sewer lines, forcing raw sewage back through our plumbing and into the basement. My storage room, along with the shared basement space I share with my upstairs neighbor, sustained significant damage.

Over the past few days, so many people have reached out asking how they could help. I truly appreciate every message, phone call, and offer of support. Rather than trying to coordinate help individually, I decided to create this fundraiser so anyone who would like to contribute has a simple way to do so.

The cleanup has been overwhelming. Many personal belongings were contaminated and had to be thrown away, and because raw sewage is considered a biohazard, professional remediation is required before the space can be safely restored.

Funds raised will help cover:

• Professional sewage cleanup and biohazard remediation
• Replacing personal belongings that were contaminated beyond repair
• Repairs to plaster, drywall, flooring, and other damaged areas
• Contractor and restoration costs to make the basement safe and livable again
• Waterproof storage bins, shelving, and other organizational supplies to safely store belongings and help protect them from future water damage
• Tips for the incredible crews from MSD, ServPro, and Roto-Rooter who have worked tirelessly to help us through this disaster

This was completely unexpected, and the financial burden has added up quickly. Any amount, no matter how small, will help us recover and restore the basement. If you're unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your friends and family would mean just as much.

If we are fortunate enough to raise more than is needed for the cleanup and repairs, any remaining funds will be donated to Habitat for Humanity so they can help other families rebuild their homes.
