Hi, my name is Frankie, and I would like to share a little of my story with you. I am a 53-year-old, independent woman as I have taken care of myself from age 12. It is incredibly difficult for me to ask for help! At the urging of my incredible work family and friends, I must humble myself request and accept help. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with stage four lung/bronchial cancer and given a 5% mortality rate. I underwent chemo and radiation for nine months before hearing those magical words “you're in remission”. During that nine month fight I was forced to use all of my savings, my retirement, and take out a loan as my treatments weren't covered under the insurance I had at the time. I was in remission for eleven blissful months. February 24th this year, I was diagnosed with stage 1-3 cancerous tumors in my bronchial tubes. It was necessary for me to begin very aggressive treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Unfortunately, this time I have found myself with financial struggles. I have to pay $1235.75 out of pocket a month just for the chemo. This doesn't include missed wages for having to be out of work, over-the-counter medications, supplies needed, and my doctor ordered liquid diet.
