Help us with our big move!

Hi! This is Bo and Ian. We are moving to an off-grid land project along with our two fur babies, Summer and Burr, and we're asking for support from our community to help us with our very exciting upcoming move.
Both of us have been living on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), ˈskwɔːmɪʃ (Squamish), and Stó:lô peoples for the past decade or so. This space has given us a home to grow in as we worked to create a strong community. We have worked in non-profits focusing on food security and engaging youth and kids. We have stood behind anti-pipeline and decolonization work. We have participated in the queer community and co-founded a queer sci-fi writing group called Writers 4 Utopia. We have created. We have loved. We have grieved. We have gotten sick.

Through all this wonderful magic we have experienced here, it has become increasingly difficult to survive in this city. The housing crisis makes it almost impossible to have a home and create community. After numerous renovictions and constant housing insecurity, we moved into our motorhome in March. There are certainly perks to being a “homeowner,” but we have also felt this city's attacks on poverty. We have had to move the motorhome frequently to minimize the number of tickets we get. Recently Bo was diagnosed with a chronic illness, which was exacerbated partly by stress associated with homeless, and they had to leave their job.
Now for the good news: for the past 2 years we have worked to create our vision of moving off-grid to start a land project. One full of healing, nature connection, permaculture gardens, animals, and deep decolonizing work. We have pursued our dreams almost single-mindedly, and after years of work we have finally reached the point where we are ready to move forward. We bought a motorhome (yep, the one we have been living in) and totally rebuilt it to into an off-grid tiny house. We have all our tools ready, our plan in place, and found a place in the woods to park the motorhome, so yep, on August 14th we are finally moving off-grid to unceded Kwakwaka'wakw territory!!!!!!
Once we're there, Ian plans to start a wilderness school on the land for kids and youth centred around growing, gathering, and making good food. Bo plans to launch their business, which will combine permaculture, decolonization, nature connection and ancestral connection. We will also be selling goods produced on our land and working remotely at more conventional jobs. However, this past year of dealing with our health problems and homelessness means that we are short on our financial goal to get us to the island. Poverty is expensive! So we are asking for support from our community to help us get there!
We need help to reach our goal of $1500 to help us transport our tiny-house-motorhome and supplies to the island. We are asking folks to donate whatever they can to us to help us get there -- no amount is too small. Think of it this way: if 150 people donate a dollar, that's $150, a tenth of our goal! Every contribution will get us closer to our dream of creating a space for healing and connection. If you can't donate, please help us out by sharing this campaign.
Thank you so much for your support, and wish us luck in our big adventure! <3
