Mary Joe (60) and David (70) Williams, have lived in their Schnitzelburg home for 23 years. Recently, they discovered some cracking in the walls of their bedroom. After hiring a contractor to mitigate the problem they quickly went from living in their home to a full-on construction zone. The plaster on 2 walls was removed and the entire ceiling was torn down. After requesting additional funds for a second time, the couple knew something was wrong and said they couldn't afford anymore. The contractor refused to continue and the couple was left with multiple holes in the wall on the coldest week of the year. Having already spent half of their life savings, the couple was at a loss as to how they would repair the home and even considered selling.  

Debbie D'Angelo, a local Interior Designer, became aware of the situation and knew that she must help the Williams' with their dilemma. She stepped in and began making phone calls and organizing contractors, who were willing to volunteer their time to get the couple's home repaired and made whole. The volunteers first met with Debbie at the Williams' home on Saturday, Feb. 13, and agreed on what needed to be done to repair the damage. Russell Jones and his crew, Phillip Risen, Tom Walsh, and others, began working on Saturday, Feb. 20, to demo the unsafe temporary structures left behind, along with the remaining plastered walls. The home has suffered significant water damage in several areas and therefore will need to be sealed and remedied before new construction can begin.  

Dave is a veteran and is still currently working full-time, and Mary Joe who has beat cancer 5 different times, is a homemaker. Mary Joe has always given to those in need, purchasing groceries multiple times through 2020 for those who couldn't afford it. She looks to lend a helping hand to her neighbors and community any chance she gets. Well, now it is time to extend the helping hand to the Williams'. 

On Saturday, March 27th, the owners of​ 21st In Germantown have graciously agreed to host a fundraiser event to help the couple recoup their losses and assist in the remodeling efforts. There will be good food, great drinks, live music, and silent auctions. We are asking for auction item donations from local businesses. 21st Amendment will be donating 10% of the day's sales for all dine-in and carry-out orders. There will be strict adherence to all Covid guidelines. All funds and donations will go directly to Mary Joe and David.
