I set up this fundraiser to help Michelle, my dear friend since 9th grade in 1988.

She is a federal worker who was close to finishing her new-employee probationary period when thousands of probationary employees iwere terminated. This is problematic for a number of reasons, including the fact that she is the primary breadwinner of her household and is currently going through cancer treatment. Her health insurance was extended for only a week, meaning that her cancer treatment has come to a screeching halt.

I’ve created this fundraiser with the hope that it can generate some funds to help her while she looks for a new job. This money would be primarily used to pay for health insurance so she can continue her cancer treatment, but could also assist with the mortgage, utility bills, or pay for any number of things that will help to keep her and her family afloat. I know times are tough for a lot of us right now, but if anyone could toss some dollars into the fundraiser—no amount is too small!—I would be most grateful, and Michelle will be, too!

She loves her work—loves making a difference in people’s lives through that work—and she is very good at it. In her most recent employment review, she got a level 5/outstanding in all elements and last year she received two awards, including a Special Act award.

As Michelle said, "Public service is more than something we do. It is who we are."
