Helping Taco
This fundraiser will be 100% for Taco's vet visits, medicine, vaccinations and neutering.
Taco is a little, 3-4 month old kitty who started showing up at our back door. First, he'd come around with his mom. Now, he comes alone. We began feeding him and letting him inside for snuggles (with us and our 2 kitties). He really has become part of the fam.
About 2 weeks ago, we noticed he looked very skinny and frail. We found blood in his stool, as well. He seemed to have decreasing control over his bowels. We took him into the vet and they gave him dewormer to treat any intestinal parasites (since they didn't have a stool sample, they didn't know what type he had).
They found he had a 104 degree fever, which they treated with a shot and a prescription of antibiotics. They tested him for feline aids and leukemia, both of which came back negative.
However, he tested positive for FIV. This is a terminal virus that lowers their immune system, so they get sick more easily and more frequently than average. There's no treatment or cure yet for this. But, it's not to the extent that they'd recommend euthanization. We have further testing this week.
After he gets past the worms and current cold he has, we will get him his vacc.'s and have him neutered. In the meantime, we aren't allowing him inside, since FIV can possibly be transmitted to our cats. However, once all 3 cats are vaccinated, they can be around each other.
While we'd love to keep him, we most likely wouldn't be able to afford the future medical bills. And it's recommended he's the sole kitty in the home, to lowers the chances of passing the FIV along. So we are looking for a family who is looking for a little sweetheart to love and care. Until then, we will continue doing so.
Thank you to each of you who has decided to generously help us and Taco! We appreciate all of you!
