Henson's Big Heart

Henson is a Welshs Pembroke Corgi (seven years old).

In March he began experiencing breathing issues we thought is was seasonal, but it got

worse. Went to his  regular Vet and they prescribe an antibiotic and it worked for a short while, but then on May 3rd Henson had a very hard time breathing and we rushed him to an

emergency vet hospital. He was put into an oxygen box and and a scan was done which revealed that Henson had an enlarged heart and water around the heart. He was put on meds to help with this, but it was not a cure since there was a opening in a duct which was pushing blood into his heart. We were given a death sentence.

Our regular vet also check Henson and could not understand why this was so because his vital numbers came out normal. Thankfully she was able to give us a number to Dr.Jonathan

Goodwin a Cardiologist who we were able to take Henson to and he revealed that this was a  birth defect in that the duct should have closed after he was born, but instead it just narrowed. Henson needed heart surgery.
Happy to say yesterday May 19th Henson had his heart surgery and the duct was closed and his enlarged heart has decreased by 25% thus far. He is coming home today.

Henson was named after the late Jim Henson and just like the Muppets he is a free spirited little guy full of happiness and joy. Glad we are going to have him around alot longer due to the wonderful care he received.
