Her Own Demons (SAG Short)

Hello! And thank you so much for checking out the fundraising page for our short horror thriller "Her Own Demons".

Summary of "Her Own Demons"

"Her Own Demons" is the story of Janae, a young woman literally haunted by the demons of her past decisions. Primarily, her anguish is led by a superficially beautiful demon named Perseph. However, on what turns out to be the last day of her life, she runs into more and more-- one of whom even takes on the form of her roommate who was killed by Janae. By the end, Janae has been tormented to the point of utter confusion and exhaustion and then...YOU'LL HAVE TO WATCH and FIND OUT!!!

Some History: "Her Own Demons"

I am Robert Christopher Smith-- I wrote and will direct "Her Own Demons", and am very excited to announce that this will be my first SAG Production! This movie began as kind of an after-thought that was slammed out in about six hours for me to shoot with several of my "Vengeance Turns" cast, crew and friends.

However-- what began as an idea for a 5-6 minute zero budget short movie evolved into what will now be around 20 minutes and cost us around $10,000 all together (which is STILL phenomenally cheap in "Hollywood"-terms!).

The movie isn't just now longer-- It will also feature SAG actors such as Megan Nager in the lead role as "Janae", and Jamald Gardner as the demon "Max" (you will meet them below). Additionally, we are expanding our crew (MUCH to the relief of my Director of Photography, good friend and partner at Bang Bang Serendipity Productions, David Ruano!) and adding at least a full-time soundperson for the shoot. To achieve the right look-- and to SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU-- we are also hiring a makeup FX person.

All of these increases in quality come with price-tags. Unfortunately, the cost of the shoot has grown faster than we have been able to keep up with...so we are reaching out to all our fans, friends and family to insure that the movie gets made exactly as we have planned when the cameras start rolling on October 23, 2017.

HOW WE WILL USE THE MONEY

MEET THE CREATORS

Robert Christopher Smith--

"Bobby" to his friends, wrote his first story when he was seven years old but it was not until an unexpectedly successful crowdfunding campaign for "The END of FUN" (First Feature which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in) that he became a full-time film-maker. Since the day that first movie began shooting, Bobby has been working nonstop on a multitude of projects (most are his but he is involved in several others as well-- some as an actor!) in and around Hollywood.

The momentum from "The END of FUN" led quickly to the writing and development of his next feature, a female-led revenge western called "The END of FUN". Bobby, along with producers and partners such as Amanda Fry, David Ruano, and Rob Margolies is still in the process of casting and securing the budget for this movie that, while unfilmed, continues to amass a following on a daily basis.

Bobby wrote (and will direct) "Her Own Demons" out of true affection for his collaborators such as David Ruano, Kelsey Jaffer, Shira Barber and an ever-growing list of others! Bobby, David, and all producers at Bang Bang Serendipity have chosen to make all the primary actors into producers on the movie as well, so that they are actual partners for any success that it may experience.

Megan Nager--

Plays "Janae". Megan is a SAG actor with the kind of acting skills that cause "her" to disappear as she allows herself to wear her characters in a way that most actors train a lifetime to still only dream of.

During and after attending the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2012, Megan booked roles in independent feature films, web-series, and pilots. She quickly became a SAG-AFTRA actor, and began to audition regularly while also producing her own content, including a television pilot and a short film.

Megan is also a stand-up comedian who performs at comedy venues throughout Los Angeles and South Florida, including both The Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store. She also graduated from the Improv school, Upright Citizen's Brigade in January 2017.

Kelsey Jaffer--

Plays "Perseph". Kelsey began working with Bobby over 6 months ago, in deep discussions as he developed the character of "Delicate Poison" for "Vengeance Turns". She is university-trained and experienced in front of and behind the camera. Not only is she a photographer herself (and camera-nerd, to boot), she also writes stories and screenplays, and composes music (as you can see in "Taker" from her, Bobby, David Ruano, and Spencer Belko).

Jamald Gardner--

Plays "Max'. Jamald is a very serious, focused SAG actor who brings great energy to the screen and genuine friendliness to the set. ” He is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. He has been acting for over 16 years. While attending The Savannah College of Art and Design on a basketball scholarship, he caught the acting bug and ended up receiving not only a Bachelors Degree, but also Masters Degree in Fine Arts. Although he has performed in over 30 stage plays, ranging from “A Streetcar Named Desire” to “Romeo and Juliette”, and with more than 20 Independent Films to his credit, including one that was viewed at The Cannes Film Festival, he says that every time he wins a role that it is always like acting for the first time again.

Katie Ann Fuleki- Plays "Tabitha".

Katie Ann Fuleki is an actress from Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre who moved to Los Angeles two years ago to pursue a career in film and television. She has appeared in numerous short films, student films, and web series' but this will be her first SAG project.

Alexa Farneman-- Plays "Angie".

Alexa Farneman was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. In her late teenager years she began exploring all types of art including culinary programs, photography and most importantly acting. It was during these summer long programs organized through the Acting Studio of Chicago where she had found her true passion and ultimately encouraged her to move to the windy city to pursue it full time at the ripe age of 19.

She returned back to the Acting Studio of Chicago and also began her Meisner training at Black Box Acting while also performing in several short films and plays. Eager to expand her methods and opportunities she left Chicago for Los Angeles to continue Meisner (through The Baron Brown Studio), take on the Strasberg method (under Sharon Chatten), and perfect the Alexander Technique.

Since arriving in California Alexa has been fortunate to have starred in numerous short films, plays, and even appearing on television's Lethal Weapon.

Steven Ciceron-- Plays "Daddy"

Steven is a bi-coastal actor based in NYC and LA. He is the winner of a CV Indie Film Award for Best Actor in an Independent Film. Some recent film credits include The One Year Pact, By Any Means, The Assumption, CREED, Blur, Pass The Salt, and C Street. Steven has also appeared in many television commercials (DORITOS, Macaroni Grill, Colonial Williamsburg, and Disneyland), and on numerous TV shows including The Americans, Orange is The New Black, Vinyl, The Great Experiment, The Haunting, and HGTV. Some recent theater credits include Amadeus, Jekyll & Hyde, An Enemy of the People, Anything Goes, and 42nd Street.

Steven has been cast in many types of roles from Doctor, Judge, Attorney, Psychopath, and Villain to Policeman, Dad, Husband, and Historic Figure. What he likes most about acting is searching for the truth in a character and giving the character richness and fullness. This process keeps him hooked.

Steven is also a chocolate addict. He enjoys learning his lines in front of his Chihuahua... who has no choice but to listen.

Spencer Belko-- Plays "Customer in Line".

You are an actor who was born in Los Angeles, but decided to move to Michigan to pursue acting. You got cold and sad and you had no work. You returned to Los Angeles because you are an idiot who never should have left. You are now a happy LA actor again, and you finally feel at home working on projects a plenty. Your name is Spencer Belko, and this is your blurb!

Jordan Ashley Grier-- Plays "Beer-tender"

David Ruano, Director of Photography and Producer--

David coordinates visual excellence as the cinematographer for "Her Own Demons"! Born and raised with a camera on his hand, his passion for the arts started at an early age. However, David always found himself torn between the “real world” and the world you could create., he took a leap and started Photography as a career straight out of high school without hesitation with the knowledge he gained there along with encouragement and support from great teachers.

As the years passed, David never stopped capturing life through his lens, and working for various companies as he built his own. Armed with knowledge from the greatest photographers, most creative artists and visionary cinematographers, now more than ever he has created his own style and driven to create something amazing for screens of every size with “Her Own Demons”.
