It is with a heavy heart that I say Heywood has cancer. I am doing this fundraiser to help with the cost of treatment.

Anyone who has met Heywood knows that he is not only special to me, but he brings love and light into the lives of everyone he meets. He is full of wiggles, kisses, hugs, and a level of affection I have never seen in another dog.

In late August I noticed a mass on his neck and immediately took him to the veterinarian to have it checked out. We were quickly referred to an oncology specialist after ruling out other causes.

Through pathology Heywood was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma. The recommendation is to surgically remove the tumor as it will start to press on his throat and impede his ability to swallow and breathe.

Our next step is to do a CT to map the location of the tumor and to check for any spread of the cancer to internal organs, followed by surgery to remove the tumor.
