I don't usually do this. I try not to ask for help due to the years of conditioning that we've all been through. We're taught that it's okay to help others, and that's a good thing to do. But asking for help is entirely different - there's shame wrapped up in it, which is silly since everyone needs help at some point in their lives. No one gets to where they are alone.
Here's the situation: I have a friend who is about to become homeless due to a severe illness. She moved into her own apartment after escaping from her abusive ex-boyfriend. She has been suffering from a Crohn's disease flare up for the past 46 days (as of 11/27) that has kept her from being able to work. Not being able to work means not getting paid. She knows there's short term disability, but that has yet to be approved. Let's just say that the insurance company isn't the best, and the doctor who needs to send in the paperwork has repeatedly dropped the ball.
If you're not sure what Crohn's disease is, here's a link that will give you more information:
I can tell you this: I have MS and that's hard, but after watching her deal with Crohn's, I don't think I could handle what she's going through.
Why am I asking for funding on behalf of my friend? The simple explanation is that she is being harassed and stalked by her abusive ex-boyfriend. If she posts anything that can be seen by the general public, then there is a good chance he'll see it (yes, she's already blocked him from every social media platform she uses, but apparently he has spies or ways around it). The more he can see about her online, the more likely it is that he'll find out where she lives. To give you an idea of the extent of the abuse, he tried to get her fired from her job and then pregnant (without her knowledge and consent) just so she couldn't leave him. When I helped her escape from him, he threatened my family and doxxed us. He has continued the online stalking and harassment for 7 months now. I can't let him find her. This is also primarily why the photo included in this campaign isn't a photo of her.
The $2,000 will be split up between November's rent (which is way past due) as well as December's rent. Both month's rent totals out to $1,600. The remaining $400 will be used to cover co-pays for prescriptions and doctor appointments she needs to get better as well as to pay off the overdraft fees in her account from bills that have automatically gone through. She doesn't deserve the pain she's going through, and she doesn't deserve to lose her home for being sick. If you can help, please do.
